The Sea-to-Sky Green Guide website has been created through a collaborative effort of the UBC Design Centre for Sustainability and the Open Green Building Society.
Known as a national leader in incorporating the "green" paradigm into the built and natural environments, the Sea-to-Sky region is continually called on to share its experience. Leveraging the capabilities of online social networking, the Sea-to-Sky GreenGuide seeks to foster ongoing growth in understanding, replication, and innovation in sustainable urban development by sharing the knowledge that is manifest in these practical examples of sustainability.
The Sea-to-Sky GreenGuide updates and expands on the 2006 Greater Vancouver GreenGuide, a print publication developed by the Design Centre for Sustainability (DCS) at the University of British Columbia in cooperation with the Greater Vancouver Regional District, Holland Barrs Planning Group, and The Sheltair Group. All information contained in the Sea-to-Sky GreenGuide at the time of its release (February 2010) has been collected, researched and written by the Design Centre for Sustainability. By making the entirety of this information available in an "open source" online environment, and through cooperating with the Open Green Building Society, we hope that the Sea-to-Sky GreenGuide offers a dynamic, centralized repository of leading-edge information and knowledge on "greening" the built environment that can be easily shared and updated by every user.
This website is complemented by a printed Sea-to-Sky GreenGuide Map, which identifies the location of projects featured in the online compendium. The map is available through Light House Sustainable Building Centre, the Design Centre for Sustainability, the Open Green Building Society and project funders. An evolving series of Sea-to-Sky GreenGuide Audiotours will complete this multi-media package.
